1. What does a home caregiver do?
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot are 5-year pilot programs announced by Canada Immigration & Citizenship on June 18, 2019. They allow caregivers and their family members to come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents.
The Home Child Care Provider belongs to the NOC 4411 with main duties are to provide in-home care to children under the age of 18, whether in their own home or in the employer’s or child’s home. Employees do not need to live in the employer’s home. Please note that foster parenting experience is not eligible for this program.
The Home Support Worker belongs to the NOC 4412. The Home Support Workers’ duties are similar to that of the Home Child Care Worker, but those get served and cared for are different. They are elderly people, people with disabilities, or people in need of personal assistance.
Candidates participating in this program also do not need to live in the employer’s home. They can be qualified if they have experience in the NOC 4412. However, housekeepers are not eligible for this program.

3. Eligibility of the program
To be eligible for the Home Child care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot, the candidates must meet the following conditions:
- A job offer from an employer in Canada. Job vacancies must be in NOC 4411 for Home Child Care Provider and NOC 4412 for Home Support Workers
- A Canadian one-year post-secondary educational credential or equivalent from foreign institutions (or higher credentials)
- Language abilities equivalent to CLB5
- Relevant work experience related to caregivers for children, the elderly, the disabled, or those in need of care.
